A woman was seriously injured last night when she crashed her vehicle into the front of a Point Chevalier dairy.
The incident took place on the corner of Point Chevalier Rd and Raymond Rd when the woman failed to negotiate a wide bend, mounted the footpath and crashed into the Point Superette store.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 9pm and cut the woman from the wreckage. She was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car and no one inside the shop was injured.
Last night police released a statement saying that a traffic unit had seen the woman's vehicle travelling up Point Chevalier Rd at high speed, overtaking two other vehicles on a painted median. The unit then lost sight of the vehicle when making a u-turn before coming across the crash scene a few minutes later.
