BOTH BOGGED: Snells Beach residents are pondering how a four-wheel-drive and tractor became stuck in the tide this morning.

The blue skies today made it a perfect day to take the boat out - but not for this fisherman.

A four wheel drive got stuck on Snells Beach, north of Auckland, earlier today, as did the tractor sent to retrieve it.

Among residents checking out the mishap was photographer David Tate.

Tate heard the beach has a number of holes left from the kauri milling era when the sea was then further out.

The holes have filled with soft sand and become traps for the unwary launching boats from anywhere but the beach's two boat  ramps.
