Racquet club manager in court over $14k
The former manager of an Auckland racquet club has appeared in court after allegedly pocketing club money.
Brett Haywood Dennis appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday charged with accessing Royal Oak Racquet Club's ASB internet banking site on 53 occasions and obtaining $14,162.28.
Dennis worked at the club for three years and served on its executive committee before resigning and taking up a position with Squash New Zealand early in 2011.
Current club manager John Fletcher said the alleged offending came to light after he took over the club in May 2011.
"We found credit card statements that were still coming in and suspicious transactions."
He said the theft allegedly occurred over a two-year period.
Fletcher said that Dennis was "asked to leave" his role at Squash New Zealand after he was charged.
Dennis, who was still a member of the Royal Oak club and served on its executive committee, was banned from the club.
He will reappear in court on October 10.
