A seriously injured toddler had to be cut from the wreckage of a vehicle after a five-car crash northwest of Auckland.
Police say two other people were less seriously injured in the collision on State Highway 16 just south of Kumeu around 9am.
One car ended up in the ditch.
The child, believed to be two years old, was taken to Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital.
A St John ambulance spokeswoman said the two adults injured in the crash were taken to Auckland and North Shore hospitals.
Traffic diversions are in place at Old North Rd and Old Railway Rd while the scene is cleared.
