A man has been taken to hospital in a critical condition after being hit by a train in Auckland.
A police spokesman said the man was struck at a crossing on St Georges Rd in Avondale about 12.10pm.
He suffered critical injuries and was taken to Auckland City Hospital.
Firefighters were called to help remove the man from under the train.
Auckland Transport said trains had been suspended between Avondale and New Lynn.
A replacement bus service was transporting passengers between the two suburbs.
A Veolia Transport spokeswoman said, as was normal procedure, the train driver had been replaced for the remainder of his shift and would be offered counselling.
