Auckland Transport is investigating a system issue which has resulted in barrier arms failing to lift in central city car parks.
The glitch was reported around 1pm.
Staff are now manually lifting the barriers to help customers exit car parks, Auckland Transport spokesperson Sharon Hunter said.
It was not yet known how many car parking buildings had been affected.
"Apart from not being able to get out automatically for a brief period of time, customers will not realise a difference - a real person will let them out," Hunter said.
The problem is expected to be resolved reasonably quickly.
