LATEST: Detectives investigating a fatal house fire in Auckland say the incident doesn't appear to be suspicious.

One person died and a second was hospital with burns following the fire in the Auckland suburb of Glendene last night.

The fire service were called to the two-storey home on Madigan Place around 8.10pm last night. A spokewoman said fire staff arrived to find the house fully ablaze with one person locked inside.

Detective sergeant Eugene Pickett from the Waitakere CIB said the fire had broken out in the home's bottom flat. There were only the two people inside.

Fire investigators were yet to establish the cause of the blaze but it didn't appear to be suspicious, he said.

Detectives were still trying to work out if the person was "locked" inside and if so how that happened, he said.

The injured man is likely to move to a burns unit later today or tomorrow.
