Mystery containers wash up on Waiheke
A dozen mysterious containers believed to contain glue have washed up on Waiheke Island.
A member of the public reported the find to the Harbourmaster this morning, saying the objects were between Matiatia Bay and Park Point on the island's western side.
Initially, they were reported to be flammable but that was yet to be confirmed, Habourmaster duty officer Steve Jones said.
He said there were about 15 containers, all of four-litre capacity.
The Auckland Council's pollution team and the Fire Service have responded to the incident.
A council spokesman said the containers were believed to contain glue. He understood they were still intact.
The pollution team would investigate to determine where the containers came from, he said.
