A bakery owner chased an armed robber out of his shop in Otahuhu yesterday.

A man entered the Rainbow Bakery and Coffee Takeaway on Station Rd at 1.45pm, put a bag on the counter and pulled out an air pistol before demanding cash from the woman behind the counter.

Her husband heard what was happening and rushed to the front of the shop prompting the would-be robber to flee.

A 15-year-old and 17-year-old waiting outside ran away with the robber but were soon caught by police.

Eventually they were released pending further enquiries.

The air pistol was found near the bakery and was being examined by police.

The robber has not been found.
