A man has been arrested and another is on the run after a gun was fired in a Pukekohe house last night.

Neighbours reported hearing a gunshot at Les Fisher Pl at about 9pm before a man holding a gun left the property and drove off in a red ute.

He returned a short time later and picked up another man.

There were two 26-year-old men inside the house when the gun was fired but no-one was injured.

When the armed offenders squad arrived at the house, the victims described how a gun was fired and a fight took place.

The two parties were known to each other.

Armed police and a police dog unit tracked the men to a house in Rushgreen Ave near Papakura where they cordoned off the street and appealed for the suspects to give themselves up.

The 23-year-old Papakura man thought to have fired the gun was arrested and will appear at the Pukekohe District Court today.

He will be charged with unlawful possession and discharging of a firearm, and aggravated burglary.

The weapon and his 26-year-old co-offender were not found.

There is a warrant out for his arrest.
