Boaties rescued after dinghy flips
Two boaties were rescued after their dinghy overturned in the Hauraki Gulf this morning.
The two men were clinging to the upturned boat 500m out from the Mahurangi wharf when one of them was able to retrieve a mobile phone and call police at 10.55am.
Neither were wearing life jackets.
The police Eagle helicopter and the Westpac rescue chopper were both dispatched, as was the Coastguard.
They were picked up half an hour later and one man was flown to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.
The other was spoken to on the beach by police.
