A 62-year-old man accused of killing his 78-year-old neighbour has pleaded not guilty and will go to trial.
Emanu Toafiga is charged with the manslaughter of Leslie Otto.
He allegedly bashed the pensioner in April after Otto attacked him.
Defence lawyer Steve Cullen has described the case as "complex" and involved "neighbours from hell".
Otto allegedly crept up behind Toafiga and attacked him with a crow bar.
The two men both lived in a block of units in Waterview.
During the scuffle, Otto hit his head on the ground.
Cullen said Otto developed pneumonia in hospital and was seen pulling his tubes out.
He died three weeks later.
Neighbours described Otto as a quiet man who had lived at the property for about a decade.
Justice Pamela Andrews set a jury trial date for July 22, 2013.
