Carport collapses on elderly man
An elderly man had to be rescued by the fire service after a carport collapsed on him this afternoon.
Police, fire and ambulance were called to a home on Waipuna Rd in Mt Wellington just before 3pm, following a 111 call.
Fire spokeswoman Nicole Bernard said the man had driven his vehicle into the structure of the carport which had then collapsed on him.
When the fire service arrived police and ambulance were already there. After a short time, fire staff were able to help the man out of his car.
An ambulance spokesperson said the man had only minor injuries and did not need to be taken to hospital.
It was unclear how his car had collided with the carport.
