A man arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run has been charged with murder.

The 24-year-old Pt Chevalier resident appeared in the Auckland District Court via Audion Visual Link from Mt Eden Prison yesterday on a charge of murdering Uilisuni Ofa in Waterview on November 14.

He was remanded in custody until he is next due to appear in court later this month.

The storeperson was arrested on November 15 and was initially given a "holding" charge of common assault. He was granted interim name suppression at an earlier court appearance.

Ofa died after he was hit by a car on Great North Rd, near Oakley Ave, about 1.20am.

The silver Subaru police believe struck and killed Ofa was later found at a property in Pt Chevalier.
