An Auckland Transport worker who dobbed a person into their employer after they complained about parking fees has lost their job.

Tara Sutherland tweeted Auckland Transport last week "screw you Auckland City... your public transport is rubbish and in the space of three hours you triple parking prices!"

She attached a photo of two tickets as proof of her complaint which showed that on the same day the price of parking tripled.

Auckland Transport responded: "Looks like you were the first to use the parking meter after it was upgraded to the new CBD zone scheme."

Sutherland later tweeted that Auckland Council had complained to her employer about her tweet.

Auckland Transport told Sutherland they were "mortified" over the incident and were investigating it.

The council-controlled organisation's spokeswoman today said the contractor responsible for complaining to Sutherland's work had been let go.

"We have been in touch with the user and apologised for the situation," Auckland Transport communications manager Sharon Hunter said.

"People have a right to complain or make comment to Auckland Transport through our communication channels and they also have a right to their privacy."
