Two young girls who survived a car crash which killed their mother have not improved since being admitted to Starship Children's Hospital last night.
One girl aged five is critical but stable, while her seven-year-old sister is stable.
The girls were taken to hospital after the car they were in crashed into another vehicle on Muriwai Rd, Waimauku last night.
The girls' mother died at the scene.
Police said a witness was assisting them with their enquiries.
It's not clear what caused the accident.
