A man charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend in an Auckland sleepout will be kept in jail until at least his next court hearing as he awaits trial.

Karl Eddy appeared in the Manukau District Court today charged with killing Alicia McCallion, 23, who was found dead by family members on December 12 at their home in Cotton Pl, Papakura.

Eddy, 39, who changed his Facebook status to single two days before McCallion's death, did not make an application for bail.

However his lawyer Marie Dyhrberg asked his image continue to be suppressed to prevent identity issues arising during trial.

Eddy will next appear in court on January 30.

He is yet to enter a plea.

McCallion was a former pupil of Rosehill College and was a trained hairdresser.
