A man on the run after a shooting in South Auckland has appeared in court on two firearms charges.
A 23-year-old man remains in critical but stable condition in Middlemore Hospital after he was shot in the stomach at a property in Eastland Rd, Flat Bush, on January 2.
Gareth Heron appeared in the Manukau District Court today charged with unlawful possession of a .22 rifle and ammunition and was remanded in custody until January 30.
The 25-year-old was arrested last Friday at a Tuakau address after he had made contact with police following sightings of his car which was seen speeding from the scene.
A 29-year-old man who lived at the Eastland Rd address also appeared in court today on a firearms charge and was remanded in custody until January 30.
The victim was understood to have been drinking with friends outside his house when he was shot.
"The victim has been in his car, he's hopped out and something has taken place," Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher said. "Someone else has produced a .22 calibre weapon and shot it at him at close range."
Police still want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious near 35 Eastland Rd, between 10pm and 11pm on January 2.
