School name secret as teacher faces charges
The name of an Auckland school where a teacher is accused of indecently assaulting children has been suppressed after an application by the school's board of trustees.
The teacher, aged in his late 60s, appeared in the Waitakere District Court for the second time yesterday on 11 charges.
Police alleged he indecently assaulted five eight-year-old girls between February and November 2012.
Lawyer Ellie Harrison, acting for the school's board of trustees, applied for suppression of the name of the school citing the desire to "provide a settled environment for the complainants".
The accused "consented" to having his name suppressed and was remanded on bail to a further hearing on January 24.
The teacher was arrested in December after a "full and thorough" investigation, police said.
Fairfax understands the man will remain on leave while the court process continues.
The school wrote a letter to families advising them of the investigation.
