Commuters were evacuated from Auckland's Newmarket train station and trains were bypassing it after a fire alarm went off this morning.
A spokeswoman for Veolia Transport, which runs the rail network, said the alarm went off shortly before 9am and trains were not stopping at the station.
The fire service was unaware of the alarm and had not been called to the station.
It is not known whether there was a fire at the station or whether the alarm was accidentally activated or malfunctioned.
