An Auckland man implicated in killing an aspiring police officer reacted angrily to media attention in his case when he appeared in court today.
On January 2 Alex Ulu, 23, was shot in the stomach outside an Eastland Rd property in Flatbush and died in Middlemore Hospital two weeks later.
A manhunt was launched for Gareth Heron, 25, who was arrested on January 4 in Tuakau.
Shortly afterwards he appeared in court charged with unlawful possession of a .22 rifle and ammunition and was remanded in custody.
In Manukau District Court today, he kept his head down as he was remanded in custody until next month.
However, after media applications were granted, he gave the middle finger to TV cameras filming proceedings and said "sounds good" when the judge gave him his next date.
A 29-year-old man who lived at the Eastland Rd address is also facing a firearms charge over the incident.
