A fire in the Auckland suburb of Mt Albert tonight was deliberately lit, the Fire Service says.
The blaze, which firefighters have now put out, spread along several hundred meters of railway line, a Fire Service spokesman said.
The fire is the third major callout for firefighters in the Auckland region today.
Earlier, up to 50 people were evacuated in Manurewa as firefighters battled a large blaze fanned by high winds, a Fire Service spokesman said.
Two houses in Manurewa were threatened but neither was damaged before the blaze was brought under control, he said.
High winds made controlling the fire difficult and it quickly spread, burning an area 300 metres long.
Eight fire trucks were used to fight the blaze.
Firefighters were dampening down hotspots in Manurewa this evening, the spokesman said.
A third blaze, this afternoon north of the city at Snells Beach, meant Fire Service resources in the region were stretched, he said.
