Eftpos skimmers jailed for Easter spree
Four men who stole almost $700,000 in an Easter weekend Eftpos skimming spree have been jailed.
William Rivera Rivas, Mario Rivera, Sina Chea and Kevin Roberto Flores-Roldan appeared in the Auckland District Court yesterday where they were each jailed for four years and six months.
In November, the men pleaded guilty to charges of using a document to gain pecuniary advantage and participation in an organised criminal group.
Police said all the men were from Canada, but, court documents list only Flores-Rodan, 27, as Canadian.
Rivera-Rivas, 27, was listed as a factory hand born in El Salvador, as was Rivera, 31.
Chea, 40, was listed as a cook from Cambodia.
Between March and April 2012, the men stole Eftpos keypads from stores in Auckland and Hamilton, altered them and then returned them to the stores.
Almost 700 peoples bank details were recorded.
The money was never recovered.
