Maori Party candidate denies manslaughter
A former Maori Party candidate will defend a charge of manslaughter after a man died trying to break into a Salvation Army rehabilitation centre.
Timothy Aperahama Morrison, 45, was the manager of the Mt Eden centre when Rob Harris tried to kick in the front door late last year.
Police allege there was a scuffle and Harris died in hospital a week later.
Morrison, who is studying to be a paramedic, administered first aid.
He appeared at the High Court in Auckland this morning where Justice Timothy Brewer set down an eight-day trial for August 5.
Morrison unsuccessfully stood for the Maori Party in the 2010 election.
