A one-year-old boy was killed after being run over in a driveway near Warkworth, north of Auckland, last night.
Police and ambulance were called to the property at Woodcocks Rd, Kaipara Flats in the wake of the incident, which occurred at 5.45 pm.
A scene examination was conducted and victim support staff were called.
The death adds to the number of children killed in driveways in recent months.
Last year Safekids New Zealand, the national child injury prevention service, said spring and summer were the trauma seasons with a high rate of driveway injuries.
"Every two weeks a child is hospitalised with serious injuries received from a vehicle driving on a private driveway in New Zealand," Safekids director Ann Weaver said.
