A South Auckland man allegedly tried to entice two 10-year-old girls into his car with lollies and a promise of going camping.

The 25-year-old student pulled over next to the girls on Trafalgar St in Otara early on Sunday morning, police say.

He allegedly tried to entice the pair into his car. When they refused, he offered them lollies if they would get in and said he would take them camping with him.

When the children's parents approached the man drove away, but they were able to give his registration to police, who contacted the man at his home.

He was interviewed, arrested and charged with offensive behaviour. He is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Friday.
