A special Remembrance Day will be held this Sunday for the 91st commemoration of the end of World War One.

Also known as Armistice Day, it will remember those who served for our country on war-torn battlefields and celebrate those who are fighting for peace today.

It is held at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, or the nearest Sunday.

Government officials, military units, members of the Royal New Zealand Returned Services Association and all who wish to honour service personnel can attend.

A military parade will head down Hobson St at 11am.

The parade will be followed by a service led by Vicar Archdeacon Glynn Cardy at 11.30am.

The remembrance service will take place at St Matthew-in-the-City, on the corner of Wellesley St and Hobson St. Auckland city councillor Greg Moyle will give a welcome and Professor Kevin Clements of the University of Otago will be the keynote speaker.

A two-minute silence is a central feature of the commemorations Armistice Day.
