A Navajo artist is making a special appearance at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

The museum, in partnership with the US Consulate, will host Dennis Jeffy for an Artists in Conversation event on November 24.

To celebrate his visit the Auckland museum will be hosting a conversation between Mr Jeffy and renowned Maori artist and Fulbright award winner Darcy Nicholas.

The two will investigate the similarities between the native Navajo and Maori cultures, exploring indigenous art, tribal practises and cultural artefacts.

Mr Jeffy is making one of his few journeys off the Navajo reservation in Jeddito, Arizona, to come to New Zealand.

His work follows the Native American Fine Arts Movement of the 1800s and includes a range of mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpting and fabric design.

Artists in Conversation will be held in the Maori Court and Te Korowai Room from 6pm.

Tickets are available at the door for $10.
