Fundraiser for victims
Relevant offers
A fundraiser is being held to support the victims of human rights abuses, something the event's guest speaker has personal experience with.
Olympian rower Rob Hamill's brother Kerry was captured by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the 1970s.
He was imprisoned and executed two months later in the now infamous Tuol Sleng prison in the country's capital, Phnom Pehn.
Mr Hamill will speak at Hagar New Zealand's fundraising event and charity auction this Friday.
The organisation is the local branch of a Swiss-based charity which provides recovery and after-care to young victims of severe human rights abuses throughout south-east Asia.
Another Kiwi, Sue Hanna, will also share stories of her work with Hagar in Phnom Pehn.
The event is at the Parent Centre, 300 Great South Rd, Greenlane. To buy tickets phone 0800-484-2538 or buy online at ticketdirect.co.nz.
