Celebrities were among those chipping in and serving up a feast of strawberry treats to Aucklanders for a good cause yesterday.
MasterChef winners Brett McGregor, Nadia Lim and Chelsea Winter were some of the well-known faces lending a hand to raise awareness as part of Mercy Hospice Auckland's annual Strawberry Festival. Mike McRoberts, Paula Penfold, Lauraine Jacobs, Robert Rakete and Robert Scott also got stuck in, serving for the cause.
The festival, at Queen Elizabeth II Square in Britomart, marked the start of the strawberry season. Organisers were expecting festival-goers to devour more than 3,000 servings of strawberry desserts.
The hospice was hoping to raise more than $15,000 from the one-day festival.
MasterChef runner-up Ana Schwarz said the festival was a great way to raise awareness about the organisation.
''It's such a special cause. Most people have had a personal experience with Hospice at some point so it's a perfect way to give back.''
