If you've got a great idea to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill Auckland Council wants to hear from you.

The Waste Minimisation and Innovation Fund opened on April 1 for small grants of up to $5000. The fund was set up as part of council's Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, adopted in June 2012.

Solid waste manager Ian Stupple says the small grants are for organisations with projects that can be up and running soon and make a difference in communities.

Organisations must meet at least half the cost of the project themselves.

The funding round closes on April 30 at 4pm.

Go to auckland.council.govt.nz and search WMIF for information or call 301 0101.
