A market in Pt Chevalier this Saturday is becoming a highlight in the community - but it's a market with a catch.
All the stalls are run by kids.
Half the stall-holders are from Pt Chevalier, but the quarterly market, in its third year, also brings sellers from all over Auckland.
Organiser Theresa McDonald has run similar projects in Mt Roskill and decided to bring the markets to Pt Chevalier.
She says the kids enjoy it immensely.
"Their presentation [of goods for sale] is really, really good. They are really into the activity."
It's not just being a part of the market which is a benefit for young people.
"Kids are primarily here to buy, eat and make money.
They are actually learning to promote, pricing, make their own signs, learn how to speak to new people and also learn how to count money," McDonald says.
Her next goal is to start a business mentoring programme for kids.
