There will be plenty of top tennis when the Caro Bowl club competition starts tonight.
In the men’s division, Westmere-based West End are the favourites on paper to challenge last year’s champions Parnell.
They boast five current or former Kiwi Davis Cup players including Adam Thompson, Mark Nielsen, Alistair Hunt, Teo Susnjak and James Greenhalgh.
Former South African international Wesley Whitehouse and rising star Oliver Statham round out the club’s daunting line-up.
Blockhouse Bay will be spearheaded by Jackson Bodle, while Campbell Park boasts Australian imports Kaden Hensel and Adam Hubble, along with former Davis Cup player Robbie Cheyne.
Pompallier and Royal Oak round out the local clubs fielding men’s teams.
Royal Oak and Pompallier are the only two local clubs that have entered women’s teams, who will look to challenge Parnell for the title.
In tonight’s opening men’s round, Pompallier face Campbell Park at home, Royal Oak welcome Blockhouse Bay and West End play host to Remuera.
In the women’s competition Pompallier visit Glendowie and Parnell host Royal Oak.
Matches start at 6pm.
