The family of a man found dead in a Hillsborough house are appealing for those with information to come forward.
The body of Damien Loder Allen, 33, was found at a Hillsborough Rd house by emergency services on September 24.
A post mortem showed he died from a head injury.
Police investigating the homicide say they have been frustrated by a lack of co-operation and honesty from people they believe know what happened to Mr Allen.
Damien Allen’s parents Shirley and Mark Allen, who live in Australia, are hoping the people who know what happened to their son will co-operate with the police.
"The day I heard of his death was the saddest of my life. To have to travel back to New Zealand and to have to look upon the body of my son, dead at only 33 years old, then attend his funeral before taking his remains back to Australia, has been incredibly painful," says Mrs Allen.
Mark Allen says: "As the father of a son who has been killed by someone and now knowing there are people who are not being honest about what happened to my boy, is absolutely beyond words.
"There is someone – or possibly more than one person – who has my son’s blood on their hands.
"They may have physically washed it off since they hurt my son, but it is still there and they can never wash it off – they know that."
Damien Allen was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia as a child, before returning in 2002.
Detective inspector Scott Beard says Mr Allen had been flatting at the Hillsborough house for several months before his death and was unemployed.
Anyone with information about Mr Allen’s death should contact the Auckland city police on 302-6400 and ask to be put through to Operation Ebb or phone Crimestoppers confidentially on 0800-555-111 and refer to Operation Ebb or Damien Allen.
