Comedy is taking over Auckland Central Library.
Joking Aside is an exhibition featuring satirical illustrations, cartoons, drawings and comics dating back to the 17th century on display at the city library until July 15.
Some of the works include illustrations from the 1930s to the 1960s by well-known New Zealand cartoonists David Low and Gordon Minhinnick.
The works come from the Sir George Grey Special Collection and collection manager Georgia Prince says the pieces offer a look at the standard of satire and humour in past years.
"These pieces offer an amusing insight into the social and political mood of their time. Some even push the boundaries of taste and the political correctness we encounter today."
Tours of the exhibition are held every Tuesday from noon to 1pm.
The exhibition is open seven days at the library on Lorne St in the city.
