Christmas can be a tumultuous time.

To help people find some serenity this year a Buddhist teacher is visiting Auckland to give a free public talk on inner peace.

World renowned Buddhist teacher Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong will come from the UK to promote peace at Christmas.

The free event will be held in the Concert Chamber of the Auckland Town Hall from 7pm to 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong is the general spiritual director of the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism, which has 1100 meditation centres and groups in 40 countries.

Gen-la is a modern Buddhist nun dedicated to helping people from all walks of life attain lasting happiness through developing inner peace.

She is teaching for the first time in Auckland and will give a talk titled Inner peace through modern Buddhism, focusing on the application of ancient Buddhist methods to solve the problems of today's lifestyle.

She will teach that the real source of happiness lies within the mind, not external conditions.

The event is open to everybody and bookings are not required.
