If you're in the city and ladies in floral frocks float past you on bicycles this Saturday afternoon, here's why - Janette Sadik-Khan is in town.
She's the former department of transportation commissioner for New York City and is said to have worked wonders there, turning the mean city streets into much friendlier places for cyclists and pedestrians.
Auckland Council has invited her here as a guest speaker at a fully booked Auckland Conversations event on May 26.
On Saturday afternoon Sadik-Khan will tour Auckland city's shopping streets and scenic paths with women from Frocks on Bikes.
Mayor Len Brown and council planning specialist Ludo Campbell-Reid will help redress the gender balance.
Frocks on Bikes encourages women to see cycling as a no-fuss way of getting around.
