A chaotic weekend of sport for one St Heliers family ended in gold medals all round.

The Heslin brothers, Jack, Sam and Tim all came home with success stories from their various events in the second weekend of January.

Jack, 13, was a member of the Auckland tennis team that won the 14 and under national teams event at the Scarbro Tennis Centre in Glen Innes.

While he was hitting it out on the court, Sam, 12, and Tim, 10, were representing the Eastern Athletics Club at the North Island Colgate Games at Mt Smart Stadium.

Sam mowed down his opposition, taking out both the 1500m and 800m races, and Tim’s relay team conquered the 4 x 100m.

The boys say they didn’t give much thought to their clean sweep until their mum Andrea Heslin pointed it out.

"We all believed we could do it, I think," says Jack.

Mrs Heslin says it was a great result after a hectic weekend.

"We were living in the United Kingdom until a year ago so it’s nice for them to have such an achievement after just a year."

Her competitive sons keep active all year round. They all play tennis and in winter run for the Auckland Athletics Club.

Between them they also play cricket, football, rugby and practise kung fu.

Jack, who is the Auckland primary and intermediate school tennis champion, plays for the Kohimarama Tennis Club and trains at the Scarbro Tennis Centre.

The boys also raced against a visiting New South Wales team on January 17, where Sam won silver in the 1500m race and bronze in the 4 x 400m relay.
