Revamp plan for alfresco fees

Bars, restaurants and cafes in Auckland are being encouraged to have their say about the Auckland City Council’s proposed changes to outdoor dining fees.
Businesses that have outdoor dining facilities are charged $70 per chair on public space. The council is recommending this be changed to $50 per square metre from July 1.
Arts, culture and recreation committee chairman councillor Greg Moyle says the council has worked closely with stakeholders in the hospitality industry to develop the new fee structure.
"Moving to a square metre basis will clearly delineate the area of footpath available for street trading to ensure there is adequate space for pedestrians," Mr Moyle says. The council is seeking feedback on the proposal fee change.
Consultation closes on March 19 at 5pm.
The detailed consultation documents and information about making a submission are available at all Auckland city libraries, at www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/
