Hundreds of kites filled the Auckland sky on Saturday, marking the end of the Matariki festival.
Family kites were dusted off, while enthusiasts from throughout the country brought out their most elaborate kites for the annual Manu Aute Kite Day at Orakei Marae.
The large kite display drew Auckland families out to enjoy the spectacle and make the most of a sunny winter's day.
The event is a regular part of Auckland's Matariki celebrations as kite flying is a traditional Maori custom to welcome in the New Year.
