This week: Auckland's best events
Looking for something to do this weekend or in the days ahead? We check out Auckland best events.
Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park - Saturday
Headlined by Australian pop star Guy Sebastian, Christmas in the Park is the place to be this weekend. Not only will the X-Factor judge be leading this festive extravaganza, but he will be joined by local heartthrobs Titanium, rocker Michael Murphy, "popera" trio Tre-Belle and the show's "godparents" Frankie Stevens and Jackie Clarke. TV3's Mike McRoberts and Carly Flynn will host and of course, the jolly man in the red suit should make an appearance.
Coca-Cola Christmas in the Par from 7.30pm, December 8 at Auckland Domain. Entry is free.
Red Bull Drift Shifters - Saturday
Auckland's CBD is about to be transformed into a pinball inspired drift race track with drivers ready to bounce their way through the city's streets. Each of the drivers will race one at a time against the clock in a bid to rack up as many points as possible in their run - it's all about speed, distance and accuracy.
Red Bull Drift Shifters, from 12pm, December 8 on Victoria St West. Entry is free.
Unwrapping Christmas in the Big Little City - Friday
Street theatre, dance and music will usher in Christmas in Aotea Square this year.
A pile of activities like Bandstand under the Stars, where you can learn some new dance moves, Random Acts theatre performances, giant Connect 4 games, and Christmas Markets will take up residence in the square for the next few weeks.
Unwrapping Christmas in the Big Little City, from December 7 at Aotea Square. Entry is free.
Open Late: Who Shot Rock & Roll - Tuesday
In a series of once-a-month special events, this monumental photo exhibition is complimented by a talk from bFM DJ Charlotte Ryan and a live performance from The Libres and Shayne Carter.
Open Late: Who Shot Rock & Roll from 6pm, December 11 at Auckland Art Gallery. Tickets $15.
Staying In/Going Out
You know it's Christmas when Love Actually hits the small screen. The all-star cast classic features the best of the best: Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson and sums up Christmas better than almost anything else.
Rather than attempting to get a reservation in a restaurant at this time of year, why not tap into the pop-up dining scene. K Rd institution D.O.C plays host to the latest with chilaquiles (tortillas soaked in salsa and cheese) on the bar (well, for $10).
Love Actually, 8.30pm Sunday on TV3. Pop Up Dining, 6pm Wednesday at D.O.C.
