Variety donates bikes to kids
Christmas came early last week for 50 Tamaki children. They were nominated to receive a brand new bicycle courtesy of Variety - The Children's Charity.
The organisation's Bikes for Kids programme ensures 450 bicycles are handed out to deserving or disadvantaged children around New Zealand each year aged between 7 and 9 years.
To be nominated, children must be socio-economically disadvantaged, with their family not in a position to purchase a bike or have recently overcome adverse circumstances.
Alternatively they can be nominated for being a role model to others, consistently making a difference within their school and community environments and showing an outstanding ability to assist those around them.
The presentation was made at Pt England School to recipients from Tamaki, Panmure Bridge, Glen Taylor, Glenbrae, Pt England, Ruapotaka, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Puau Te Moana Nui a Kiwa and Glen Innes schools.
Newsreader Simon Dallow, weather presenter Karen Olsen, sportswoman Jayne Keily and Miss World NZ Collette Lochore were there to make the presentations.
