Christmas has come to Fencible Walk reserve in Howick.
Snowy murals, accordion playing santas, blow-up reindeer and a sea of lights were among the attractions that lured in the crowds for opening night.
"It was absolutely packed," says organiser Bernard Harding.
"I don't know how many came ... there were thousands. There was standing room only outside and it was full inside the snow cave.
"They loved it. We didn't get any negative comments."
Mr Harding and his wife Diana spent two weeks arranging the impressive display before the Friday the 13th opening.
It'll be open every night from 8.30pm, free of charge, until the new year.
"It looks brilliant at night," Mr Harding says, "you can see the big tree for miles.
"It's bright red when it's lit-up and the top of the tents are all multicoloured and the garden is full of lights."
It's the first year since Manukau City Council forced the Hardings to give up their seasonal display at their home on Chapel Rd.
But Mr Harding says the new spot is prime.
"So far it's better than at home. It's bigger and there are more people. But it's hard work," he says with a chuckle.
It's also good for business.
Hammer Hardware employee and former community board chairman John Spiller is hopeful the general atmosphere it's helped create will attract more people into the village.
"Along with retail promotions it should make for a good Christmas period of trading," he says.
