White Ribbon Day on Wednesday aims to help raise the issue of violence and support men to make a change.
It is a day when white ribbons are worn to show violence towards women is not condoned.
In New Zealand each year an average of 14 women are killed by their partners or former partners and more than 3500 convictions for assaults on women are recorded.
