Residents are invited to join forces with Manukau City Council's Wai Care and mayor Len Brown to try to save the Pakuranga Stream.
Pakuranga College and Howick Intermediate have been working on the restoration of the stream since last year, and have prompted the council to help them in their efforts.
A meeting is being held at Pakuranga College library, 180 Pigeon Mountain Rd, on Monday from 7pm to 8.30pm.
Wai Care hopes local residents will attend with ideas on ways to improve the quality of the stream.
"Pakuranga Stream is one of the most significant waterways in Manukau," Wai Care programme leader James Corbett says. "There are good opportunities to restore parts of the stream to provide better habitat for fish and bird life along its length.
"The meeting is an opportunity to hear about the issues facing the stream and a snapshot of recent efforts by volunteers from local schools and businesses."
Manukau City Council works in partnership with local communities through the region-wide Wai Care programme to undertake waterway education, monitoring, and actions to improve the health of local waterways.
The programme was established in 2000 and now works with thousands of volunteers in Manukau City to restore waterways.
