The weekend is nearly upon us and there is plenty to see and do out east. Check out our recommendations below.

Soak up some culture

If bright colours, cultural music and African dance sounds like a bit of you then get along to Beautiful Africa: A New Generation this Sunday. The Watoto Children's Choir has performed at Buckingham Palace, The White House and the Australian Parliament and this week bring their new show to East City Wesleyan Church.

When: Sunday 27 May, 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Where: East City Wesleyan Church, 219 Burswood Dr, East Tamaki

Celebrate the Kids

With the Saturday morning sports done and dusted why not take the kids along to the Uxbridge Creative Centre for the Kids Festival. There will be plenty of fun activities and performances to keep the young ones busy and better yet, it's free!

When: Saturday May 26, 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Where: Uxbridge Creative Centre, 35 Uxbridge Rd, Howick

Celebrate NZ music month

Music month is nearly over, but there are still plenty of great kiwi acts performing across the city.  Take Anika Moa for example; she’ll be playing with the Family Cactus at the Paddington in Parnell on Saturday night, complete with her full backing band. Tickets cost $35, see www.facebook.com/paddingtonlive for details.

When: Saturday May 26, 8pm-12am
Where: Paddington Live, 117 St. George's Bay Rd, Parnell

Appreciate some art

While we are on the subject of events drawing to a close, let’s not forget the excellent Degas to Dali exhibition currently on at the Auckland Art Gallery.  This popular show will be finishing on June 10, so if you haven’t been along to see some of the masters’ works yet, make time this weekend to take them all in! The Art Gallery is also open late on Tuesday nights, see Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki for more details.

When: Open Daily, 10am-5pm
Where: Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Cnr Kitchener and Wellesley Streets
