South Auckland's largest employer is changing its name.
Counties Manukau District Health Board is rebranding itself as Counties Manukau Health.
Spokeswoman Lauren Young says the new name is part of a health system reform "where a greater focus on integrated services and patient and whanau family centred care" will change the way health services are delivered.
"We believe the brand name Counties Manukau Health better reflects our local surroundings, our history of Maori settlement and our aspirations as an organisation," Ms Young says.
"Our strategic objective is to become the best healthcare system in Australasia by 2015 and to achieve a balance between excellence and sustainability."
The name change coincides with a move to improve signage throughout Middlemore Hospital as it continues to grow so that patients and visitors can find their way around.
Ms Young says the new name will be rolled out over time.
