Aucklanders reported feeling a 4.5 magnitude earthquake that shook the central North Island this morning.
GeoNet reported that the strong intensity quake at 5.21am was centered west of Tolaga Bay on the East Cape of the North Island.
GeoNet "felt reports" show Aucklanders were shaken by the quake as well as people throughout the central North Island.
The quake followed another two in the same area. There was a light intensity 3.3 magnitude quake at 10.24pm last night, followed by a moderate intensity 3.6 quake at 4.40am.
Duty seismologist Caroline Little said all three were related to the same subduction zone.
It was impossible to say if more were coming, she said.
There was no risk of tsunami as a result of the quakes.
