CASH MONEY: Manager of the Pakuranga and Howick Budgeting Service says now is the best time to straighten out your finances.

As you buy your 2013 calender and set your new year's resolutions it's also the perfect time to set budget goals, Pakuranga and Howick Budget Service manager Sue Miller says.

The former accounting teacher says budgeting is important for everybody whether they have a little or a lot of money.

"It's all about planning so you can make the best of the money you have.

"It puts you in control of your finances," she says.

Pakuranga and Howick Budget Service offers a free and confidential service.

A group of 10 certified budgeting advisers is available to help you reach your financial goals.

Mrs Miller says Christmas is a good incentive to work towards.

"For example, you could save $10 to $20 a week for Christmas 2013.

"By the time it rolls around you could have 500-odd dollars saved."

Mrs Miller says she was "heartened" to return to the office after the Christmas break and receive a number of messages from people wanting to straighten out their finances.

"We're about education. We like to work with people who don't have a problem as such but they want to make a better use of their finances," she says.

The Pakuranga and Howick Budget Service is open daily from 9am till 4.30pm. Bookings are essential. Phone 576 5222 or visit pakurangaandhowick. familybudgeting.org.nz to make an appointment.
