Burning murder accused named
One of the men accused of burning a South Auckland man alive can now be named while his co-accused's name will be kept a secret.
Shivneel Shahil Kumar, 18, and a 20-year-old co-accused appeared at the Manukau District Court today charged with the murder of Shalvin Prasad, 21.
Prasad's scorched body was discovered a fortnight ago on the side of McRobbie Rd in Kingseat.
Judge David McNaughton initially refused to grant the 20-year-old name suppression, however he reserved that decision until this afternoon as an appeal to keep the man's name a secret will be lodged with the High Court.
Name suppression for Kumar was not sought.
Judge McNaughton did not grant media permission to photograph or film inside the court.
He also made an order suppressing the police summary of facts.
Police still want information concerning property belonging to Prasad.
This property included keys to his Toyota RAV4, a house key, a steering wheel lock key, his wallet, ASB eftpos card and driver's licence.
The men will reappear in court on April 19.
